Cricket spread from England to her colonies. Today, it is an integral part of the sports cultures of the colonies. From former colonies, it is also spreading to other countries around the world from USA to China to Kenya to Afghanistan. Matches and tournaments between countries have helped increase nationalist sentiments within the citizens of those countries. The growing popularity of cricket has also given rise to numerous cricket clubs around the world. The primary function of those clubs is to generate revenue for the owners as well as for cricketing boards by organizing smaller (T20) matches. These matches are popular because of their light vein and short duration. The other implication of these clubs is the showcasing of new talent. New players get an opportunity to play at such matches, which then gives them a better chance of competing with their national team.
Despite some of the problems it may pose, cricket is played, watched, followed and celebrated like no other game. It has created wonderful players and millions of ardent fans across the globe. |
